Accessibility
Bretho should be calm and easy to use however you use your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
VoiceOver
Every control you can tap has a label and can be reached and activated with VoiceOver: the tabs, exercise cards and filters, the sets picker, the session controls, the check-in after a session, onboarding, History, Progress and Settings. During a session, VoiceOver announces each breathing phase and the countdown before it starts, and reads the summary when you finish. Purely decorative visuals, like the animated background and confetti, are hidden so they don't get in the way.
Voice Control
Controls are real buttons, so they show up under “Show names” and “Show numbers”, and what you say matches what you see: “Tap Start”, “Tap Home”, “Tap Finish”. Icon-only buttons answer to natural names like “Close”, “Exit” and “Send”. Things that used to need a gesture, like picking a day in History or a plan on the paywall, are now buttons too.
Larger Text
Text follows your text size setting, up to the largest accessibility sizes. Layouts reflow instead of cutting words off: exercise cards and onboarding options wrap, the feeling buttons after a session stack vertically, and the session display rearranges itself when space is tight.
Reduce Motion
With Reduce Motion on, launch, background and button animations become near-instant, and on Apple Watch the breathing orb stops animating. The session still guides you with its label, countdown, voice and haptics.
Dark interface
Bretho uses a dark interface throughout, which is easier on the eyes in dim light and at bedtime.
Sound and touch, not just sight
You don't need to watch the screen to breathe along. Voice Guide speaks each inhale, hold and exhale, haptics mark every phase change, and you can start a session with Siri or Shortcuts.
On Apple Watch
The Watch app supports VoiceOver, Larger Text, Reduce Motion and its dark interface. Haptics guide each phase, so a session works with your wrist down.
Still to do
We'd rather tell you than have you find out:
- The feeling chart in Progress isn't fully described for VoiceOver yet.
- A few secondary screens, like the app icon picker and the share card, use fixed text sizes.
- The widgets haven't been fully audited.
- Bretho doesn't respond to Increase Contrast or Differentiate Without Color yet.
Tell us what's not working
If VoiceOver skips something, reads the wrong label, or text gets cut off, please let us know which screen you were on and what you were trying to do. We fix these first.
